The Colorful Characters at Boston Calling 2022

Captured on expired summer fruit frames, I brought my polaroids to Boston’s finest music festival. From the start, what caught my attention the most was the large Ferris Wheel that lit up the sky. Riding high, up in the sky I shot my first 3 photos. Mainly of friends, and the view from up top. The expired film gave almost a flame-like light burns to the photos. My favorite has to be the portrait I took of Bernardo.

Also equipped with my polaroid go, I offered photos to the many concertgoers. To my surprise, they loved the idea. A lot of cute couples wanted something to remember about this day. To a bunch of lads wanting a group photo. Many were even generous and left donations so I can keep creating and taking more photos. To anybody I crossed paths with, I believe we shared a special moment.

After being evacuated due to an oncoming storm. King Gizzard & Lizzard Wizzard announced they won’t be performing tonight’s show. With many shows now scattered we shuffled our way back into the festival. On the way, I tried to snag a photo of a rainbow that hovered over the large crowd waiting on Harvard Grounds. Due to the expired film, it didn’t show up the way I wanted it to. Next time.

Being on the fields of Harvard with a polaroid felt odd in a weird way. The creator Edwin Land once went to this school and dropped out to pursue what I was carrying in my hands. In a way, it almost felt like it came full circle just like a Farris Wheel. After getting inside, our goal became to see ANY music that was being played. Which happened to be no other than Black Pumas.

The Final Act

After the show, Hallie took my camera and went on a little adventure. While I stayed back and watched Run the Jewls capturing some far away shots with my go. She had the privilege to meet an older gentleman wearing the most amazing festival outfit.

Hallie approached him and captured a portrait that captures the true festival spirit. After we did one last shot out in front of the glowing Farris Wheel and said goodbye to Boston Calling.
